Author Henry Miller seated at desk cutting daisy petals with large scissors. From caption pasted on back but covering front of photo: "STIRS THE CRITICS -- Author Henry Miller, who came to the Big Sur country, 35 miles to the south of Carmel, Calif., in 1943, after a long residence in Paris, has been variously called the leader of a new cult of mysticism and surrealism, a top-drawer writer with new ideas and a charming fellow wo(sp) writes beautiful prose. In his latest book, limited to 800 copies at $100 each and printed by hand with the silk-screen process, his new art form is a combination of handwriting, in ink, with symbolic illustrations. Here, Miller, shown against bckground of his latest book, declined to peel an egg with scissors to comply with a photoraphers request to 'do something surrealistic.' He said it would be more natural to snip petals off a daisy." 171 1120a 12/16/47 AJE FX WABC 155 WIDE WORLD PLEASE CREDIT A76963 (This picture is for use in papers of Sunday, Dec. 28 (note release date) and thereafter, with Elmont Waite's Carmel, Calif., AP Newsfeatures story on Henry Miller) Henry Miller is dressed is a light colored (gray?) suit with white shirt and a dark tie with a triangular pattern.
