Glenn Youth Makes Plane And Flies It

Clipping pulled from a scrapbook. Newspaper article "Glenn Youth Makes Plane And Flies It. Willows (Glenn Co.) June 24, Bert Lane, 22 year-old Willows boy, yesterday made his first flight in an aeroplane which he made in his local shop, without any previous practical experience in aviation. Lane's accomplishment is the result of five years of study of books on aeronautics. He began actual construction of the plane a year ago. H. D. Andrews, Sacramento aviator, tested out the plane and founf it 'perfect.' Lane will take it to Sacramento and learn to 'fly.' Made Glider Young Lane has always been interested in aviation. When he was a youngster at a local school he spent his spare time making model planes. Later he constructed a glider, with which he made short 'flights' from the roof of his father's barn. The young man is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L.L. Lane of Willows." Picture of Mr. and Mrs. Lane is next to the newspaper article. The information in the article is corrected with a message written next to the clipping "Actually a neighbor's barn." A date is also written in "Approximately 1926." An oval shaped photograph of a young woman wearing knickers (or plus fours) shows her with her hand on the propeller of an airplane.
