This small Chinese bag is closed tightly at the top with a drawstring, becoming firmly pleated. The body of the bag is embroidered, front and back, with different symbols done in metallic (silver and gold) threads in chain stitch. The drawstring is blue and is decoratively wrapped in several places with fiber:blue, white and navy blue. The cord also features two pink Peking glass beads. The lining is yellow.

Purchased at Alan Percy (evidently an antique shop) 2914-18 College Ave, Berkeley, Calif. The purchase was probably made in the 1930s-40s juding by the price. There was a tag attached to the drawstring by a string: "Alan Percy, 2914-18 College Ave, Berkeley, Calif. No. 27/M.139A; Chien Lung period embroidered silk purse with rose quarts beads, 18th century." That tag was perforated, and torn at the perforations. A smaller tag (the other portion of the perforated tag) was tucked inside the purse. "No. 27/M 139A, Chien Lung period purse with rose quartz beads. Price $2.50." The price is crossed out and "25 c" is substituted. (See donor file.)
