2006.15.1

This formal length, white wedding gown of white silk chiffon has long sleeves and an Empire waistline. The bodice and three matching rows on either sleeve are trimmed with white machine made lace, and white machine stitched embroidery. The neckline is finished with a small ruffle. A: The dress. B: Train, hooks on to the back of the dress, matches the fabric. C: The sash of white grossgrain ribbon, fits under the bustline, with a flat bow and "fish tail" cut streamers in the back.

Gown was worn by Peggy Chinn who married James Takahashi (becoming Peggy Takahashi) in Oakland, August 22, 1970. Peggy's mother, Mrs. Chinn, took her daughter wedding gown shopping at I. Magnin in Oakland, where Mrs. Chinn had a special sales lady who helped her. Also in this collection, items 2006.15.3-6 are photographs showing Peggy Chinn Takahashi wearing this gown, 2006.15.1. Having a train that snapped in place made it easy for a bride to remove it and more easily greetiguests after the ceremony. But, for the ceremony, the longer, more formal look of the train was in place.
