The Rainbow Flag has sometimes been referred to as the Freedom Flag. It has served as a symbol of pride for the LBGTQ Community since the 1970s and is used around the world. A San Francisco artists, Gilbert Baker, invented the flag in 1978. Demand for the flags made it necessary to find a source of mass production. Once mass production took place, the flag's design changed. In 1986, the flag was recognized as an official flag by the International Flag Association. Red = life; Orange = healing; Yellow = sun; Green = nature; Violet = spirit.
