A pair of beaded mules, used by the donor, Mary Ann Quittman, as slippers when she was a child. The soles are of tan colored leather. The heels are covered with brown velveteen to match the inner sole. The toes are of wine colored velveteen, embroidered with beads. A: Right shoe; B: left shoe.

These little mules were brought back from the Philippines to Mary Ann by her aunt, Mary P. Brusher. (Mary P. Busher who graduated from UC Berkeley in the class of 1920, was secretary to architect John J. Donovan who did the specs for Oakland Technical High School.) She visited her brother in the Philippines, where he was stationed with the US military. On the same trip she also visited China; she was gone for about six months.
