Samarkand Ice Cream

This is a set of 19 different serigraphs (22 count total) by Wiki and Wana Derge, Berkeley art deco illustrators. These vividly colored cardstock serigraphs, measuring ca. 12 (h) x 21 (w)", were used either as countertop advertising cards (paper stands on back) or as inserts in interior streetcar advertising rails. They were lithographed between 1933-1937 by the Recorder Publishing Co. of San Francisco. Various designs and slogans are used, all advertising Samarkand Ice Cream and sherbets or jobs at the company. Five designs are signed by Wiki Derge, 14 are signed by Wana Derge. Wana M. Derge was born in Colorado in 1885. She settled in Berkeley, CA and graduated from the University of California in 1911. She taught art at the College Women's Club and the City Club of San Francisco. She died in 1964. Her book Color, Form, and Compositoin was published posthumously in 1966. PCK. Samarkand Ice Cream An ideal dessert.
