From caption on back of photograph: "Wings beating, thousands of ducks settle earthward, a sight that many hunters will see tomorrow morning as the migration waterfowl season opens in California. A goodly supply of game has been reported in most areas." Hundreds of ducks land on the shore near Lake Merritt. About half are already on the ground as the other half glide downwards. There are specks on the ground, possibly duck feed but possibly just dirt or grass. The lake itself can be seen in the background.
