Margaret E. Russell, ARC 39160

This is a set of two silver colored metal dog tags (identification tags) issued to Margaret E. Russell by the American Red Cross. The tags ar embossed with her name and her identification number ARC 39160. (ARC standing for American Red Cross.) The tags are rectagular with rounded edges; there's a hole punched in one end (in order to wear on a chain around your neck; and a notch at the other end. A-B: Identical.

Miss Russell was an American Red Cross Hospital Recreation worker, stationed at Letterman General Hospital, in the Presidio in San Francisco during, and just after, World War II. Some of the recreational activities which she led can be seen in photographs which are part of this collection. She also met her husband-to-be, Walter Haneberg, while he was a patient at Letterman Hospital. There are images of him in this collection as well.
