U.S. Army Air Force AWS, Observer

This blue, wool felt armband is embroidered in white (a circle), with the words: U.S. Army Air Force AWS embroidered in blue. Yellow orange wings are embroidered on either side of the circle. Below the circle, and matching the wings is embroidered "Observer." This armband was worn by Edward Stevens of Calistoga, during World War II. At the time he was the only dentist in Lake County.

AWS stands for Air Weather Service.
