This patch, with its curved top edge, appears to have been designed to wear at the top of a sleeve. The patch is dark purple wool felt, to which has been stitched a yellow wool felt bear.

Edward Stevens, who was a dentist in Calistoga during World War II, had attended dentistry school at UC San Francisco. This patch might relate to UC San Francisco, or UC Berkeley, or it might have something to do with the State of California, since the grizzly bear is the state animal.
