The Oakland Museum extinct, too? Save the Museum.

White cotton knit T-shirt, with short sleeves and a round neck. Printed on the front, in black: The Oakland Museum extinct, too? Save the Museum." Between the two lines of copy is an image of a dodo (bird). "Sport-T" label at the nape of the neck indicates that the T-shirt is 100% cotton, size X-Large (46), care instructions on the reverse side of the label.

This was a protest piece made by the museum staff (primarily designers and preparators) and distributed at cost to other museum staff and museum "family" members to protest cuts in the City of Oakland budget to The Oakland Museum. (Note that in the 1970s the museum name was The Oakland Museum, not the current Oakland Museum of California.) The cuts would dramatically effect the number of staff positions and thereby the programming abilities of the museum.
