An article pasted to the picture reads, "The holiday season got under way in earnest in the Eastbay [sic] following the Thanksgiving interlude. Spreading cheer outside the Emporium-Capwell's store in downtown Oakland was Salvation Army bellringer Leslie Williams. He lured a couple of customers in the person of Alderon Doran, 6, and Gabriel Mike, 4. And the three lots were starting to boom as the weather broke yesterday after a rainstorm. Ray McDowell ties down a tree in the wind while Andre Cain, 3, has a sheltered view from the inside." Below this is typed, "Leslie Williams rings his bell vigorously oustide Capwells in Oakland. Bell ringers were out in force the day after Thanksgiving. Williams who works as a cook at the Salvation Army in Oakland started at 9am this morning and decided to skip his lunch because it was busier and thought he would miss out if he stopped for lunch". Image depicts Williams ringing a bell in front of the store.
