A poster painting party in an art gallery in Berkeley, making posters to oppose the Gulf War in Iraq; the primary subjects in the foreground are artist Julius Spilman and poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Mr. Spilman, to the left, is wearing a white cowboy hat, a dark leather jacket, and a bolo tie; he has a trimmed beard. He holds a paint brush above a nearly completed poster featuring an abstract face and the phrase, "END WAR." Further back is Mr. Ferlinghetti. In the background are several people women standing among folding tables covered with butcher paper, cups of paint, brushes and posters in progress. As this is a gallery, on the walls are framed art of various styles. On verso is the photographer's stamp, "Gary Reyes," and the date stamp, "Jan 15 1991."
