A night-time image on Telegraph Avenue in Berkely during a political protest bonfire the night of the death of street activist Rosebud Denovo. At the center of the frame is a pile of boxes, newspaper vending machines, and assorted scraps, all on fire, tended to by two men (behind the pile), one African American (wearing a baseball cap), the other Asian American (with long hair and a mustache). Behind the two men is a crowd of various protesters and on-lookers. On verso is photo credit and description, all handwritten in blue ball point pen, stating: "Photo by Glen Morimoto -- Special to the Tribune. Protesters burn junk on Telegraph Avenue Tuesday (8/25/92) night to protest killing of Rosebud Denovo."
According to Wikipedia entry on "Rosebud Denovo" (6/12/2009): Rosebud Abigail Denovo (born Laura Marie Miller) (? - d. August 25, 1992) was a 20 year old street activist. ... On August 25, 1992, Denovo broke into the residence of Chancellor Chang-Lin Tien on the UC Berkeley campus at 5:50 am, triggering a silent alarm that summoned the University of California Police Department (UCPD) .... The UCPD then sent five Oakland Police Department officers and dogs into the house, and the officers shot and killed Denovo after she allegedly lunged at them with a hunting knife. ... Denovo's killing triggered ... protests. ...
