A police officer in a a riot helmet is to the left of the frame, his back to the viewer, facing the crowd. On verso is the photographer's stamp, "Ron Riesterer," and the date stamp, "Oct 5, 1992." Also on verso is the handwritten notation, in pencil, "Protesters at Grant & Pacific S.F. protest as [Vice President Dan] Quayle visit (sic) up street."
