The image is of an outdoor press conference against the backdrop of a building signage which reads, "Nicholas C. Petris - Ambulatory Care Center - Subspecia[unreadable] Care." In the center of the frame is an African-American man, James Anderson, in a suit and tie, standing before a table upon which is an African-American baby in a car seat, his daughter Kennesha; Mr. Anderson is looking out beyond the viewer. Next to him, to his (proper) left, standing behind a podium with microphone, is a late-middle-age white man, also in a suit and tie, California State Senator Nicholas Petris. Sen. Petris is looking downward to his (proper) right, toward the baby in the car seat. The face of the podium has signage, which is partially out of the frame, that identifies the setting as Children's Hospital, Oakland. It is a bright, sunny day. On the table, to the (proper) right of the baby in the car seat, are stacks of pamphlets. On verso is the photographer's stamp, "Oakland Tribune Photo" and "Wendy Lamm," and the date stamp, "Sept 9, 1992" (in which the month is blurred but which looks most like "Sept"). Also on verso is the description, in black felt tip pen, "Press Conference - Senator Nicholas Petris with James Anderson and his daughter Kennesha, 10 weeks, who is modeling her new baby car seat."
