An image of four 10th grade African-American girls in a classroom lab, looking at something outside the frame (to the viewer's right), and responding with laughter, enjoyment, and interest. The setting is a biology class at Castlemont High School. The girls are students, dressed in casual, mild-weather attire, all wearing t-shirts (with no insignia), necklace chains, earrings, and (one girl) rings. Two of the girls can be seen with backpacks slung on their shoulders. On verso is the photographer's stamp, "Tribune Photo By" and "Wendy Lamm," and the date stamp, "Sep 8 1992."
