Audrey DePalm, holds up her 3-year-old son, Matthew, into the air (his feet on her chest), in a hospital room decorated for Christmas. Matthew is holding a bunch of balloons on strings, "Seasons Greetings". The caption, typed on the front margin of the print, states: "December 15, 1990 -- Audrey DePalm holds her son Matthew, 3, to reach a bunch of balloons in front of a Christmas tree at Kaiser Permanente hospital's Christmas party for children with cancer. Matthew suffered massive brain cancer and had two surgeries in May. 'This is my best Christmas ever,' said Audrey DePalm, 'because my son is still alive.' Photo by: Paul Miller/THE TRIBUNE" And in handwritting, in blue felt pen, is the note, next to the typed caption, "DePalms live in Oakland." On verso is the photographer's stamp, "Tribune Photo by" and "Paul Miller," and the date stamp, "Dec 15 1990." Additionally, on verso, are printer's notes, handwritten in black ballpoint pen.
