Unidentifiable text in blue pencil at top left, bottom left, and bottom right.

Poster is composed of two items: one larger poster and a smaller strip of corresponding paper, both adhered to a shared backing. Strip of paper provides a description of the main poster "this poster, a reproduction of the instructions of evacuation, serves not only as a reminder of the past injustices committed against people, but as a reminder that there are present and future struggles to be waged. Although the Japanese were interned in camps during World War II, we must remember that this is not an isoLated incident in time but is the result of historical events of oppression which still exists. Thus to change history is to change the kind of inustices which brought about the Japanese internment in concentration camps." The preceding text is printed on lined paper and cut in lines to be adhered together to create the paragraph. Poster was released by the Western Defense Command and Fourth Army Wartime Civil Control Administration in the Presidio of San Francisco, California on May 3, 1942. The poster provides instructions for following Civilian Exclusion Order No. 34 and outlines the boundaries of the proclamation - which counties are affected and must adhere to the evacuation. Any individual of Japanese ancestry is ordered to evacuate by noon on May 9, 1942. Approved items evacuees are permitted to take with them are listed, as well as instructions regarding how these items are to be packaged for travel. Pets are specifically prohibited. Poster associated with J.L. DeWitt Commanding Lieutenant General of the U.S. Army.
