At the left is a portrait of Samuel Gompers, the first president oif the AFL. At the bottom right is text that reads: "Birth Of The AFL". below the title are two columns of text that reads: "The American Federation of Labor, organized by the leaders / of the craft unions, had its origin in 1881. Samuel Gompers, / shown here when he was a "reader" for the cigar makers, / became its first president and served until his death in 1923. / P.J.
