Letelier was an economist and diplomat during the presidency of Chilean President Salvador Allende. As a refugee from the 1973 military dictatorship of US-backed General Augusto Pinochet, Letelier lived in Washington, D.C. where he was engaged in policy research and advocacy. He and his assistant Ronni Moffitt were assassinated in 1976. [LMC]
