"Drawing by Julia Iltis" printed at bottom left and a small union label for GCIU printed at bottom center.

Poster printed with an overall black background and white design on white paper. An image of a rounded stone archway fills the page. Parallel images within the rise of the arch show confrontations between civilians and soldiers. A quote by Monsignor Oscar Romero, Archbishop of San Salvador, made on March 23, 1980, is printed within a white rectangle under the arch: "We want the government to understand, in all seriousness, that the reforms serve no purpose if they are bathed in so much blood. / In the name of God, therefore, in the name of this suffering people, whose cries reach every day more and more urgently to heaven... / I ask you, I beg you, I order you, in the name of God, Stop the Repression!" Small print at bottom right reads: "Refugee Project for Central America / Catholic Social Services / 2175 The Alameda / San Jose, CA 95126 / (408) 293-0132."

Archbishop Romero was assassinated the day after he made this speech. [LMC]
