The April Coalition represented a major shift in movement strategy from demonstrations to elected office. Progressives Loni Hancock and Rick Brown were elected April 6 to the City Council. The combination clenched fist/peace symbol image was originally created by Wayne "Wally” Zampa in 1970 at Foothill College in Los Altos. It was picked up that same year by the UC Berkeley poster workshops and then reinterpreted for this campaign poster. [LMC]
