Progress Poster for School and Collect * March 1, 1966 / Nuclear Power on the Moon / Astronauts will take along to the moon a compact nuclear system to power lunar experiments. / 1 Snap-27 comes in a hand, portable package. In one possible procedure for assembling the equipment, astronaut is just opening package. The nuclear power source has been taken out and is resting on the ground. / 2 The communications section of the package is now being opened, and astronaut is swinging up the antenna. In background is a unit containing sensors. / 3 The system is now fully set up--with the sensors in place to record measurements of phenomena such as moonquakes and the intensity of solar flares. / 4 Astronaut (right) -- Who wear special covering over space suit to protect him against temperature extremes of the lunar surface--is shown at transmitter controls of SNAP-27. The antenna is aimed to beam data back to earth. In background is the Lunar Excursion Module, inside which a sescond astronaut is at work. / Prepared by Educational Relations.
