Poster is printed on tan paper with text and images in brown. The top of the poster has the text: "El Teatro Campesino / presents / In the Old Mission of / San Juan Bautista / La Pastorela / An Early California Folk Opera of The Shepherd's Play". The center of the poster has a stylized drawing. In the foreground of the drawing, at left there are two male figures side by side, both are wearing wide brimmed hats and looking up toward the sky, the figure at left is wearing overalls and playing a drum, the figure at right is playing a flute. Behind the two male figures is a large crowd of men, women, and children, many with outstretched arms looking to the sky. In the sky above the figures there are a number of celestial objects: a stylized sun with a face, a stylized moon with a face, stars of varying size, and a large comet whose long tail is made up of many small white birds.
