Four (4) butterflies in a Riker Mount which is a thin, glass-topped, cotton-filled exhibition case. Wings are brown. Upper side of forewing has 2 large yellow-ringed eyespots. Lower side of hindwing has a variable number of small eyespots. These range from 1 3/8 x 1 3/8 to 1 1/2 x 2 1/8. All butterflies are female. Verso: A dark pink stamp that has a box with the following information inside: "Collection of Clay Ward Inglewood-California NAME [line] on DATE [line] LOCATION [line]" In black handwritten ink on the NAME line: "Cercyonis alope boopis" In black handwritten ink on the DATE line: "June 27, 1929" In black handwritten ink on the LOCATION line:"Berkeley, Calif." In handwritten black ink "The Ox-eyed Wood Nymph". Female symbols are stamped below in pink that correspond to the butterflies on recto.
