Four (4) butterflies in a Riker Mount which is a thin, glass-topped, cotton-filled exhibition case. They are arranged in one row.  Upper surface of forewing is mostly black with ivory spots along margin. Upper surface of hindwing has orange spot on costal margin and sheen of bluish (female) or bluish-green (male) scales. Underside of hindwing with pale green marginal spots. The range in size from 2 x 2 1/4 to 3 x 3 1/2.  The middle two are folded. The top butterfly is female the bottom butterfly is male.  The one in the middle at the left is a female and the one at the right is a male. A dark pink stamp that has a box with the following information inside: "Collection of Clay Ward (obstructed by a hook used to hang the mount) Inglewood-California NAME [line] on DATE [line] LOCATION [line]" In black handwritten ink on the NAME line: "P.Toilus" In black handwritten ink on the DATE line: "July 29, 1930" In black handwritten ink on the LOCATION line:"Appleton, Tenn" Below in handwritten black ink is: "Spice-bush Swallowtail". Male and Female symbols are stamped below in pink that correspond to the butterflies on recto.
