Provo Canyon
Six (6) butterfly in a Riker Mount which is a thin, glass-topped, cotton-filled exhibition case. Wings are light to very dark brown; wing fringes are checkered. Upper side of forewing usually has 1 eyespot in the male, 2 eyespots in the female; upper eyespot is larger. Underside of forewing of both sexes has lower eyespot smaller and nearer to the wing edge than the upper eyespot. They range in size from 1 1/8 x 1 to 1 1 9/16. They are arranged in two columns. The two in the middle are folded. The following description is from left to right and then top to bottom: The first, second, and fourth are female. The third, fifth, and sixth are male. Verso: A dark pink stamp that has a box with the following information inside: "Collection of Clay Ward (obstructed by a hook used to hang the mount) Inglewood-California NAME [line] on DATE [line] LOCATION [line]" In black handwritten ink on the NAME line: Cercyonis oetus" In black handwritten ink on the DATE line: "June 15, 1934" In black handwritten ink on the LOCATION line:"Provo Canyon Wasatch Co. Utah" Below in hand written black ink is "Least Satyr". Male and female symbols are stamped below in pink that correspond to the butterflies on recto.
