Basket for trinkets, twined "Man's mush eating basket."(warehouse card)[vv,6/91] From the History Information Station: "Object: Basket tray made by open twining, and bowl made by twining. The tray was collected among the lower Klamath River people; the bowl was collected among the Hupa of Northwestern California. Both date to the late 19th or early 20th century, and were acquired by the Oakland Public Museum circa 1930. History: The Klamath River peoples used a variety of pots and pans and dishes; however, their eating and cooking utensils were all baskets. The tray held the man's portion of fish or meat and was served to him on top of his bowl, which contained acorn mush. This is a bowl in which an individual portion of acorn mush is served. The size and decoration of each eating basket was determined by the sex and age of the person to use it. This basket is appropriate for use by a grown man."
