Canteen of wood
From the History Information Station:
Object: Wooden canteen.
History: A fur trapper had to carry all his supplies with him as he travelled great stretches of wilderness in search of beaver. This sometimes included water. In the mid-nineteenth century canteens were made of tin, wood, india rubber, and even hollow gourds. This model was made by steaming a flat piece of wood into a circle, and then attaching the front and back pieces.
