Picture, photograph. "Grand Central Hotel, 1870, burned 1880" (D. Cooper, 3/2000) This image appeared in "Oakland Revisited" with the following caption: "Grand Central Hotel, 1870, Photographer Unknown.". Built in the late 1860's, the elegant Grand Central was Oakland's finest hotel and one of the largest in the state. The regal edifice stood on Twelfth Street between Webster and Harrison until a fire totally destroyed the hotel in 1880. ( P. Mendelsohn from "Oakland Revisited" portfolio. 8/2002)
