Photograph, Oakland North of 14" St. A great panoramic view of early downtown Oakland. Streets busy with many automobiles. Several horse and wagons/buggies can be seen. A streetcar is seen on San Pablo. City Hall, built between 1911 and 1913, is focal point. Kahns Department Store capped by a glass rotunda is prominent. Also seen is H. C. Capwell, Pacific Tel, & Te. Co. , Abrahamsons, Mossbachers can be picked out. Lake Merritt in right background showing very little development. Undeveloped East Bay Hills in background. (D. Cooper, 7/2002) The triangular building across from city hall is the First National Bank building (later the Broadway building). The turreted triangular building at the intersection of Telegraph and Broadway is the Cathedral building, built about the same time as city hall.
