Bibliography: The Beginnings of Oakland, California ,A.U.C. by Peter Conmy; Oakland Public Library, 1961 Dr. George C. Pardee, son of Dr. Enoch H. Pardee, was born in San Francisco on July 25, 1857. He was educated locally and graduated from Oakland High School in 1875, and from the University of California i8n 1879. Then he enrolled in Cooper Medical College in San Francisco and spent two years there, and four at the University of Leipsic. Thereafter he practiced his medical specialty of eye and ear in Oakland. A member of the Oakland City Council in 1891-93, he served as Mayor 1893-95, and as a Regent of the University 1899-1903. On November 4, 1902 he was elected Governor of California and served as such 1903-07. Subsequently he practiced medicine in Oakland and served as a director of the East Bay Municipal Utility District. Governor Pardee died in 1941.
