Picture, (photograph), early Oakland. "The building was used first by the "Female College," then Pacific Theological Seminary, then Golden Gate Academy which was later called Hopkins Academy. Now the site of Merritt Hospital, there was another larger building on the same grounds" "from Albert E. Norman" (C. Thompson, 6-94) Female College probably refers to the Female College of the Pacific which was located in the 1860s in this area of Oakland. (P.Lau, 8/2002) There is currerntly a Goldengate academy at 3800 Mountain Blvd. in Oakland.
