Shoes, button, black satin, high French heels. Made by P. H. Herher, 93 Rue de Richelieu, Paris. Worn by grandmother of donor, Eliza Mandana Abbott, at her wedding when she was married to David Harriman Rand, 12-24-1863. Rev. Thomas Starr King officiated, San Francisco. David Rand later became Oakland's first chief of police. At one point these shoes were assigned object of unknown origin number 4218.1. On that green sheet it says the shoes were made in 1859 and worn at a wedding in 1864; see file for more history. J.A.
