Gift of Mrs. Helen Snyder Wood
H4133.18B

gown and camisole. Material: netgown, ribbon camisole. Color: white. Period or Date: ca. 1900. Country: US. Description: Embroidered at home gown trimmed with pink and green ribbon camisole. Worn by Mrs. George Knox of San Francisco and Oakland. Pretty fabulous! Two wide silk satin ribbons that have been sewn together - dusty rose and green to create the flounces. The deep lace flounce also has a matching dusty rose ribbon. This is a very sexy dress, layers and layers intending you to look further. This reminds me of 1880's aesthetic dress with a floating panel. Low neckline you see in 1908-1910. Date is c. 1910, not c. 1900 as originally catalogued. The tie around the waist is bit of a puzzle, but this was the time period when womend like to wear long tassels. Symphony of rhythms. (Claudia Kidwell, 5/11/1994) It ties to create a cummerbund effect; the tassels are finished with dusty rose satin ball and pale green satin ball. (IBM, 5/11/94)
