Ceramic opera glasses - inscribed Therese, Xmas, 1884, made by Lemaire FI, Paris
From the History Information Station:
Object: Opera glasses, enameled brass, in the ornate Rococo Revival style, with figures in 18th century dress. Made in Paris. Engraved "Therese, Xmas 1884."
History: These glasses were given to Therese Parrot, a member of the family of Tiburcio Parrot, a descendent of an early Mexican-California family. They were used to view the stage from a far-away seat at the theater, but, more importantly, they were a fashionable accessory for Therese to carry when she dressed for the formal occasion of the opera.
