2 shell and fiber head ornaments - Nukuoro "Shell headwreaths were made in Micronesia. (Mara Mar)" (J. Nason 9/93) "White and beige w/ purple and red fiber design, with ribbon decoration. Diameter=8." (Gray notebook) "Head wreath `mwaremwar' in Mortlockese. Made of cowry shell strung with hibiscus fiber onto a pandanus leaf ring form; further decorated with hibiscus fiber dyed purple or red (using boiled typewriter ribbons). Used for dancing and also worn on other special occasions." (James Nason, 12/94) "Headwreaths made for sale. Kapingamarangi and Nukuoru are Polynesian outliers. These wreaths are sold to tourists who visit Pohnpei, as these outliers are rarely visited. The makers do wear these, but are more interested in receiving money for them." (William Alkire, 2/95)
