Painting on china. Description: Painting on china of Langshan rooster (one of the prize winners) On the back of the painting a label reads Peter Kawalkowski, China Decorator, 636 14th St. Oakland. S. m. 2/22/08 | from the History Information Station: Object: Hand-painted picture of a chicken, oil on milk glass, ca. 1910 to 1920. History: James Crabtree, a local poultry breeder, won numerous prizes at fairs and shows for his Langshan chickens. This portrait shows a champion bird. Chickens, like other birds, are judged on a point scale. Elements like the size of the head and the preportion off body to head contribute to the judging process.
