(Dinner plate,) cup & saucer. Description: "Blue Willow" ware - belonged to Mrs. Woodruff's great grandmother whose surname was Ward and lived in Sonoma County, where she settled in the mid-19th c. From History Information Station: Object: Cup and saucer, white earthenware with a Blue Willow pattern. Probably made in England. History: Most families had a few special dishes, carefully brought to California from homes back East. These dishes were brought by settlers to Sonoma County before 1900. You may have seen Blue Willow dishes before. There were several versions of the Blue Willow pattern which were popular throughout the 19th century. All included Chinese-style rocks and trees and whatever else the designer liked, and all were imitations of an English pattern, originally designed in 1780.
