Jug. Description: copper water jug; top chained on.
History: Spanish
From the History Information Station
Object: Hammered copper water jug made in 17th century Spain.
History: This jug is typical of the containers used in the California missions. Copper is a soft, malleable metal which is easy to shape by hammering. The repeated hammering also hardens the metal. Because copper is durable and resistant to rust, it was often used to make storage and carrying vessels, such as this jug.
