H69.38.1665

The area shown on this map is bounded by Park Ave. on the west and by Lawrence St. on the east; the southern boundary street is Franklin, and Adams Ave. is the northernmost street shown. None of these street names has survived to the present time for this location. In addition to the streets already cited, there are frontages also on Greene St., Marion St., Warren St., Putnam St., Lafayette St., and Washington St. None of these street names has survived to the present time for this area. Shell Mound is shown on the map to front on the Bay of San Antonio, and it appears to be the property of Capt. A.F. Rodgers. Other property holders in the area (all of whom reside on Adams Ave.) are Joshua Tevis, J. West Martin, Judge Crockett, Mrs. Regua, E.B. Derby, and W.A. Bray. Fontainbleu Garden also is on Adams Ave., near its intersection with Greene St. The "Tract List" compiled by Quentin does not include Shell Mound Villa Association Tract. (D. Cooper, 2/1999) The title identifies this property as in "Brooklyn, Alameda Co." which suggests that it is on the east side of the Lake Merritt Channel and prior to the 1870s annexation of Brooklyn Township by Oakland.
