H69.38.1731

In this original map, the area presented is mostly, what at that time was marsh land at Oakland Point, and what has later become the beginning of the major land fill that characterizes the westerly part of Oakland. The east-west streets shown are 1st, 3d, 5th, 7th, Goss, Short, Division, and Chase; the north-south streets shown are Poplar, Kirkham, Cypress, Center, Chester, Henry, Lewis, Campbell, Willow, Wood, Pine, Cedar, and Bay. Peralta bisects the area in a north-easterly manner. The map legend reads: "Area of land covered by Roadway. Tract shaded [pink] 53.27 acres. Tract shaded [blue] 9.30 acres. Total: 62.57 acres." It appears that American President Lines and the Southern Pacific Transportation Co. Yards now occupy the area below and to the west of 1st St.
