Chest. Description: colonial; Mexican cupboard used for storing books, painted blue. Chiapas, Yucatan origin.
From the History Information Station
Object: Wooden cupboard made in Chiapas, Mexico in 1850.
History: Cupboards, or trasteros, such as this one with its iron lock, were used for secure storage in households and in church sacristies. In the church, trasteros were used to store the vessels, vestments, and missals used during Mass as well as other church valuables.
