Marbles. Description: Group of porcelain marbles, from Yountville, five. From the History Information Station: Object: Five stone marbles, played with in the mid-19th century in Yountville, California. History: Marbles are one of the oldest kinds of children's toys, and they were particularly popular in the United States in the 19th century. The fancier ones were made of china or glass, but even these stone marbles were not inexpensive. Only the more successful pioneers cold afford to buy them for their children.
