Container. Description: Small orange-brown red earthenware jar (cream or preserve pot). Contains salt , on range. From the History Information Station: Most food in California pioneer kitchens was stored in ceramic crocks and pots, which could be purchased from local potters. They were mostly used to store foods like honey, sugar, corn, and beans, as well as pickles and preserves. They also held leftovers occasionally. Few leftovers were kept, because there was no refrigeration, but at least the heavy crocks sitting in dark cupboards kept the food cool and safe from mice.

Used: cream pot | Preserve pot
