Original Central Pacific Railroad Station at 7th & Broadway, 1863. Copy. Broadway station 1869. (D. Cooper 9/2002) The Transcontinental Railroad arrived at this station in Oakland on Sept. 6, 1869. The impact of the railroad on Oakland was huge. See Beth Bagwell, Oakland, Story of a City. This was the main passenger station; businesses sprang up all around it to serve passengers. The trains continued on down 7th Street to its end at the waterfront, and after 1871, the Central Pacific's two-mile long Long Wharf where passengers and freight made ferry or ship connections to San Francisco.
