Weininger, DeWitt Jones, Oakland Parks and Playgrounds, 1935): Sequoia Park, now known as Joaquin Miller Park, was purchased from the Havens estate in 1916 for $192,000; 2 more acres were added in 1929 for $3,000. The original acquisition resulted from a "Save Our Sequioas" puiblic campaign leading to a bond issue. Immediately after the purchase, Skyline Blvd. and Joaquin Miller Rd. were constructed along the park's northern, eastern and southern borders. In 1930 a well was sunk to provide for the park's elaborate water system.
