History: The Alameda County Fair began in 1868. It was held in Oakland and Hayward before moving to Pleasanton in 1912. The county fairs have played an important role in fhe development of California agriculture. They provide forums where ranchers and farmers exhibit their best products and exchange information about new techniques and products. Through the competition between the producers in categories from livestock to fruits, the fairs promote high quality for all of the state's products. Lent by Mr. Donald Church.
